We dissect the new Lewis Road Creamery peanut butter ice cream – yum or dumb? July 11, 2017 Eating in It’s fair to say that whenever Lewis Road Creamery bring out a new product that there’s going to be hype. Everyone remembers the furore that erupted when they launched their chocolate milk and there was a nationwide shortage. Hell, it was global news so we heard about it even though we were living in London. Lately Lewis Road’s ice cream flavours have been generating the most social chit chat so it’s a stroke of PR genius that they’ve now teamed up with Pic’s – aka one of the most hipster brands of peanut butter in NZ. Call us suckers but we are more than happy to jump on a bandwagon when it comes to new releases or limited editions of tasty treats. So we took it upon ourselves to find out whether Lewis Road Creamery had once again brought the goods or whether it was a bit of a flop. Yeah so when we say dissect we really mean it. Tom had great fun chopping up this calorific creamy tub for artistic effect. Obviously it was only right to sample as we went – multitasking if you will. Initial reaction is YUM. I mean it’s hard to disappoint when you combine ice cream, peanut butter and chocolate isn’t it? I’ve got to say though, is the chocolate that necessary? Peanut butter gelato or ice cream is a legitimate flavour in its own right. Does the chocolate just muddy the water so to speak? I say yes a wee bit. But I also wouldn’t throw this tub out of bed… or my freezer. It’s a tasty treat and the chocolate chunks are quality tasting. It’s actually quite similar to Cadbury’s flake ice cream but the peanutty flavour takes it to the next level. So what’s the verdict? While it’s definitely yum, being big Pic’s peanut butter fans we were hoping for more nuttiness. We reckon Lewis Road Creamery should at least offer a crunchy version that swaps the chocolate chunks for peanut pieces. Yup, we’re pretty much utter peanut butter nutters.
